PUTRAJAYA: Barisan Nasional (BN) will be allocating seats for the upcoming 14th general elections based on a 'win- win' approach, and not based on the traditional seats of the component parties.
BN secretary-general Datuk Seri Tengku Adnan Tengku Mansor said the matter was discussed with the leaders to ensure that BN wins a big victory in the election.
"The Deputy Prime Minister has asked us to realise a way to overcome the problem of determining candidates.
"We will discuss with them ( the component parties), if you can win the seat, take it, and if you can't, give it to someone else who can. If MCA can win (a seat), give it to MCA. If Umno can win, give to Umno, and if Gerakan can win, to Gerakan, and same for Progressive People's Party (MyPPP)," he said.
He was speaking to reporters at the launch of the Ceria 1WP app and the flagging off of about 3,000 Ceria Run runners in conjunction with the closure of the Karnival Kad Ceria event today.
Yesterday, Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi was reported to have said that BN should follow the spirit of Tapah BN in the last general election, where the tolerance and compromise of its component parties delivered a big victory in the 13th general election.
He was quoted as saying that for the GE-14, if it was felt that any area would benefit from a swap of candidates, it will be done or temporarily given a seat, but it will be returned when the situation improved.
