KUALA LUMPUR: Reigning Malaysian Film Festival (FFM) Best Actress Sangeeta Krishnasamy, 32, is a big fan of Prime Minister Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad.
She is "forever indebted" to Dr Mahathir for modernising and industrialising Malaysia, as well as putting the country on the world map.
And now that he has returned to power as Malaysia's seventh Prime Minister at 93, Sangeeta cannot help but marvel at his strength and perseverance.
"I grew up during Dr Mahathir's first premiership and he's done wonders for our country. Now that he's made a comeback, I'm delighted and thrilled as he works wonders for the country," she said in an interview yesterday.
Sangeeta said that Dr Mahathir took great care of his health, and was "incredibly fit, strong and cool" for a man of his age.
"I would love to be as successful as he is, in my career," she said, adding that it took a lot of hard work, discipline and determination to be "as great as Dr Mahathir".
Sangeeta hopes to work as hard as her hero and take better care of her health "from now onwards".
"And most of all, I want to do my country proud as an international actress, in the spirit of "Malaysia Boleh"," she said.
Sangeeta will soon wrap up filming the crime drama "Banteras", which will air in August.
The 12-episode drama is about the work of Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) officers, and is directed by Ghaz Abu Bakar.
Besides Sangeeta, it also stars Zahiril Adzim, Khir Rahman and Kamal Adli.
