PADANG TERAP - The low number of male disciplinary teachers does not pose a problem as even female teachers are capable of handling the position.
Education Minister Datuk Seri Mahdzir Khalid said the ministry is confident of its disciplinary teachers, be it male or female, as those who fill the position possess the right qualification.
Mahdzir said the low number of male disciplinary teachers could be due to the higher number of female enrolment at teachers’ training colleges and also local universities.
“However, whether it is male or female, I believe that they are able to handle the responsibility entrusted to them.
“Of course the challenges faced by female disciplinary teacher especially at high-risk schools are much challenging but I trust that these schools are working closely with the authorities to tackle any issues,” said Mahdzir on Sunday.
He was commenting on a claim that the low number of male disciplinary teachers contributed to disciplinary problems in schools in the rural areas.
Mahdzir added for high-risk schools, a good working relationship between the school management and the authorities is important to curb the any disciplinary problems.
“The cooperation between the Parent-Teacher Association (PTA), police, National Anti-Drug Agency, local leaders and the community is vital to help solve any disciplinary issues,” he said.
