KUALA LUMPUR: The Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) has submitted the investigation papers on 1Malaysia Development Bhd (1MDB) case to the Attorney-General’s (A-G) Chambers.
A-G Tommy Thomas said his department would need time to scrutinise the documents but is aware of the need to expedite the matter.
“To ensure that the tasks are carried out effectively, I have formed a team to scrutinise the documents with the intention of launching criminal prosecution, if any, and another team to study matters from relevant legal proceedings.
“Officers in these two teams will comprise deputy public prosecutors and senior federal lawyers who are experienced. They will report on their findings directly to me,” he said in a statement.
Thomas said he has also signed an application to seek cooperation from Switzerland, the United States, France and the United Arab Emirates on criminal investigation matters.
This, he said, is being done not just for follow-up action but also to foster closer ties with the parties.
