Police launch Scrambler squad to fight snatch thefts

KUALA LUMPUR: The Dang Wangi district police headquarters has set up a special squad under the Motorcycle Crime Prevention Patrolling Unit to ensure public safety and keep the district safe.
The Special Scrambler Squad which consists of seven Kawasaki Scrambler motorcycles would be on duty between 12pm to 8pm daily to help reduce street crimes, such as snatch theft mainly at hotspots areas around Jalan Ampang and the city centre.
Dang Wangi district police chief Assistant Commissioner Shaharuddin Abdullah said the squad would focus on four converging point strategically identified which is Wisma Selangor Dredging, Renaissance Hotel, KLCC bus station and LRT Ampang Park.
"This squad will play an important role in crime prevention, in increasing omnipresence of police, as well as to address the snatch theft issue at these four points," he said.
Shaharuddin added that the squad's presence would also give tourists a sense of safety while travelling around the City centre.
"They will mainly keep watch and prevent crime in the Dang Wangi district.
The motorcycles are meant to help increase police patrolling, especially at dirt and narrow roads and alleys that were not passable by ordinary patrolling units, he said.
Shaharuddin added that the squad would also be responsible to help curb criminal activities, tracking down suspects and keeping a watch on safety of civilians.
