PUTRAJAYA: More than 14 million voters will go to the ballot box on May 9 for the country's 14th general election (GE14).
Election Commission (EC) chairman Tan Sri Mohd Hashim Abdullah today announced the key dates of GE14, after chairing a special meeting which lasted about two hours.
"For early voting, the date is set on May 5. The nomination date will be on April 28," he said.
This will mean contesting political parties have 11 days to campaign. In the 2013 general election, the campaign period lasted for 15 days.
Hashim added a writ would be issued on April 11 to the returning officers (RO) in charge of each constituency to inform them of their duties on nomination day and polling day.
Last Friday, Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak announced the dissolution of Parliament, which came into effect on April 7.
