SEPANG: The Selangor football squad will return to play in Shah Alam Stadium if Barisan Nasional (BN) recaptures Selangor in the 14th general election (GE14), says Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak.
According to him, the assurance is given, as he fully understands the feelings of youths in Selangor on the issue.
“We will hand over Shah Alam Stadium back to the Red Giants,” he said when speaking at the closing ceremony of the Malaysia 4B Youth Movement Day celebration at Banghuris Homestay in Kampung Ulu Chucuh, Sungai Pelek here yesterday.
Selangor were denied access to Shah Alam Stadium following a tiff between the Football Association of Selangor (FAS) and the state government since the end of 2016, causing the team to seek other venues. The Kuala Lumpur Football Stadium in Cheras has also been made the home venue of Selangor for Malaysia League competition this season.
Najib said he would also ensure the rights of Selangor State Youth Council on the Selangor State Youth and Culture Complex in Section 7, Shah Alam would be reinstated if BN wins the state in GE14.
Earlier Selangor BN chairman Tan Sri Noh Omar who also spoke at the ceremony said the Selangor state government under the leadership of Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Mohamed Azmin Ali had marginalised youths in the state.
According to him, the issue of Shah Alam Stadium and youth complex were two examples of Selangor residents being denied their rights and were forced to become refugees in their own state.
“If 4B Youths rise up to ensure BN’s victory in Selangor, BN will hand over the youth complex to the youths again.
“If BN wins today, Shah Alam Stadium will be handed over to The Red Giants,” Noh said.
