KUALA LUMPUR - The national Under-23 (U-23) squad striker N. Thanabalan is eyeing to be listed in the 2018 Asian Games in Indonesia this August despite still recovering from an injury.
The Negeri Sembilan Super League squad player suffered a knee injury while undergoing training with his team last week prompting national U-23 squad coach Datuk Ong Kim Swee exempting the player from the squad's training sessions beginning Sunday.
"The team doctor who treated me expected my injury to take between three to four weeks to fully recover. I think I can recover in time to perform if the coach calls me because the first match at the Asian Games will be on Aug 14," he told Bernama recently.
Asked about Negeri Sembilan's chances in the Super League, Thanabalan who helped Malaysia win silver at the 2017 Kuala Lumpur SEA Games, said he was confident the Deer squad would be able to maintain a positive pace to remain competitive in the Super League next season. -Bernama
